3D Imaging of director field configurations of Liquid Crystals (LC)

We found that electronic four-wave mixing (FWM) process can be a good optical probe for 3D orientational imaging of ordered materials. We are studying the director field configuration of liquid crystals with the polarization dependence of FWM signals. Below are shown both the horizontal and vertical FWM images of a FCD (focal conic domain) structure of a smectic LC sample (8CB).
